Patient Safety
Delivery by Health Careers International
One of the fundamental principles of health care is the safety of patients. Medical errors are the third leading cause of death in some developed countries. The numbers are quite alarming even in the middle income countries where a number of factors such as low staff numbers, inadequate resources, overcrowding, shortage of basic equipment, compromised hygiene and sanitation are all contributing to unsafe heath care. These can result in permanent injury, increase hospital stay, death and a big toll on both the healthcare system as well as relatives.
Most errors are preventable or avoidable and this topic gives an overview of what the different areas are where healthcare can be compromised and ways to provide high quality health services, keeping in mind that the patient is the highest priority.
